Mooring went from good practice to a verified, inspected requirement
Since 1 January 2024 mooring is no longer judged on the condition of a rope on the day of inspection. Regulators, vetting schemes and terminals now ask for design data, a documented management plan and a traceable history for every line and fitting.
Amendments in force from 1 January 2024 require mooring arrangements to follow design, selection, inspection and maintenance rules, with a mooring system management plan verified by Class.
Ship Design MBL, line design break force, fitting SWL and line retirement criteria now have to be evidenced, not assumed.
Inspectors verify mooring against MEG4 using structured questions and expect the crew to show records and explain the plan.
Mooring practices feed the RightShip safety picture; compliant vessels can earn the Mooring Safety badge on the RightShip platform.
Port State, Flag and terminal inspections increasingly check mooring records, and several ports in Australia, South America and elsewhere apply guidelines stricter than SOLAS and MEG4.
Both frameworks expect a measured, continuously improving mooring management system, and TMSA 3 Stage 4 expects it to be data-driven across the fleet.
What this is costing ship managers today
Mooring is one of the few areas where a paperwork gap can turn into a fatality in seconds. The pressure lands on superintendents and crew at the same time.
Calculations crews cannot be expected to do
SDMBL, line design break force and fitting SWL checks are specialist engineering work, yet compliance is often left to ship's staff with limited subject-matter support.
Inspection findings that repeat
Missing certificates, unclear retirement criteria and incomplete records lead to the same SIRE 2.0, RISQ and PSC observations voyage after voyage.
Lines retired too early or too late
Without lifecycle data, ropes are either replaced on a calendar, which wastes money, or kept in service too long, which risks a parting line.
Expensive, decentralised purchasing
Each vessel orders on its own with no comparison of service life, quality, cost and availability across makers and rope types.
No fleet view for the office
Superintendents cannot see which vessels are drifting out of compliance until an inspector or a terminal tells them.
First-time port calls
Vessels arrive at unfamiliar ports without knowing whether their mooring arrangement is compatible with local requirements.
Spreadsheets, binders and best guesses — or one live record from procurement to disposal
Mooring should be managed as a measured system, with the crew recording and the software doing the engineering checks.
What sets DigiMoor X7 apart for your fleet
DigiMoor X7 was built by Master Mariners who carry out MEG4 gap analyses for a living, and it was the world's first mooring software approved by both Class and RightShip.
World first in approvals
The first mooring systems management solution approved by Class, and approved by RightShip under its Zero Harm Innovation Partners Program.
Compliance that runs itself
Real-time, fleet-wide automated compliance covering MEG4, SIRE 2.0, TMSA 3 up to Stage 4, RightShip, SOLAS and DryBMS.
Global port compatibility
A shared ports database shows mooring compatibility before the vessel is fixed or arrives, useful for first-time calls and stricter local rules.
Powerful analytics
Trend patterns of MEG4 and SOLAS non-compliance, rope health across the fleet, rope life anomalies, manufacturer quality and life comparison, and a global ports mooring database.
Built for seafarers
A seafarer-friendly interface with an offline mode for vessels, so records get made on deck, not reconstructed later.
- Key features
- IMO SOLAS, OCIMF MEG4 / TMSA 3, RightShip RISQ 3.2 and DryBMS compliant
- Mooring lines and loose equipment kept compliant at all times
- Global ports shared database for first-time port calls
- Intuitive alerts to vessels and managers
- Automated reduction in mooring line damage
- Mooring System and Line Management Plans (MSMP & LMP)

Safer mooring that pays for itself
DigiMoor X7 is built to return at least 20x its cost. The biggest saving comes from buying the right rope for each ship, and the biggest safety gain from retiring lines on data instead of estimates.
Case study: a fleet operator across Europe, Japan, South-east Asia and the Middle East
Facing SOLAS 2024, SIRE 2.0 and MEG4 with Excel-based records and decentralised buying, the client started with a gap analysis of fittings against SDMBL, then replaced its spreadsheets with DigiMoor X7. Result: best-suited ropes at 9x lower cost, extended rope service life and RightShip Mooring Safety badges on its vessels.
Fewer incidents
Mooring incident risk alerts and wear-zone tracking at ship and maker level flag lines that are deteriorating before they part.
Longer service life
Predictive rope-life analysis lets you retire lines on measured condition, so good rope is not thrown away and worn rope is not kept.
Pattern recognition that a spreadsheet will never give you
DigiMoor X7 uses artificial intelligence where it removes manual work from the crew and adds insight for the office.
AI rope inspection
Inspection inputs are assessed to highlight wear patterns and lines that need attention.
Certificate interpretation
Line and tail certificates are read automatically, so data entry errors do not creep into compliance checks.
Damage trend analysis
Rope damage and incident data are trended across the fleet to show which positions, berths or practices cause wear.
Designed for ships and seafarers
Simple screens, guided entries and offline working mean the crew can record mooring data without training courses.
Powerful analytics: the whole fleet's mooring picture at a glance
Real-time dashboards and analytics turn every inspection, line record and port call into trends the office can act on.

- Trend patterns of non-compliance with MEG4, SOLAS and other requirements
- Rope health across the fleet, with drill-down from fleet to vessel to individual line
- Rope life anomalies flagged before a line fails early
- Manufacturer's quality and rope life comparison by maker and line type
- Global ports mooring database for compatibility before arrival

Learn more about DigiMoor X7
What is DigiMoor X7?
DigiMoor X7 is mooring systems and line management software from Synergetic Shipping Technologies. It records the lifecycle of mooring lines, rope tails and loose equipment, maintains ship-specific MSMP and LMP, and automates compliance with SOLAS, OCIMF MEG4, SIRE 2.0, TMSA 3, RightShip RISQ 3.2 and DryBMS.
Is DigiMoor X7 approved by Class and RightShip?
Yes. DigiMoor X7 was the world's first mooring systems management solution approved by Class (ClassNK) and it is approved by RightShip under the Zero Harm Innovation Partners Program.
Does DigiMoor X7 help with SOLAS 2024 mooring requirements?
Yes. It holds the design data, management plans and inspection and maintenance records that the SOLAS amendments in force since 1 January 2024 require, and checks lines and fittings against MEG4 criteria such as SDMBL and fitting SWL.
Can a vessel use DigiMoor X7 on its own?
Yes. DigiMoor X7 runs standalone and delivers full value on its own. It can later be connected to other Marine X7 modules such as PMS X7 and Procure X7.
