Permit to Work

PTW X7: Digital Permit to Work System for Ships

Stop printing the same permit for every ship and every work area. PTW X7 automatically pulls the right processes and creates a ship-and-task-specific permit based on the type of ship, the space, the equipment in use, your SMS procedures and regulatory requirements. Digitally signed, with risk assessments built in, and available offline on iOS and Android (mobile & tablet) and Windows desktop & laptop, with data sync to shore.

01What has changed

Hazardous work is now inspected as a process, not a signed form

Enclosed space entry, hot work and other high-risk jobs remain among the main causes of fatalities at sea. Regulators and vetting schemes now look at whether the permit fits the task and the space, and whether the crew follow it step by step.

IMO MSC.581(110)

IMO's revised recommendations for entering enclosed spaces aboard ships strengthen expectations on identifying spaces, assessing hazards, testing the atmosphere and controlling entry.

SOLAS

SOLAS requires enclosed space entry and rescue drills at regular intervals and portable atmosphere testing instruments on board, so the permit has to connect to equipment and practice.

SIRE 2.0

Inspectors look closely at enclosed space entry and permit to work, and test whether the crew understand the controls rather than just whether a permit exists.

RightShip RISQ 3.2

Dry bulk inspections examine permit to work and enclosed space practices, a key area given cargo holds and fumigated cargoes.

PSC & Flag

Port State and Flag inspectors may check permits and drills, and enclosed space concerns can lead to deficiencies or detentions.

TMSA 3 & DryBMS

Both expect a controlled permit system linked to risk assessment, with the office monitoring how it works across the fleet.

02The pain it causes

What generic permits are costing you

A permit that does not match the job gives a false sense of control, and that is where accidents begin.

One permit for every ship

The same printed permit is used across vessel types and work areas, so space-specific hazards are left for the crew to remember.

Procedures read after the fact

The crew are expected to read the procedure first and then build the permit, which rarely happens under operational pressure.

Training on every process

Each permit type needs its own training, and new joiners are left to learn the company's way on the job.

Risk assessment kept separately

The permit and its risk assessment live in different places, so the controls in one may not appear in the other.

No office view

Paper permits stay on board, so the office cannot see which high-risk jobs are open or how they were controlled.

03How it is managed today, and how it should be

Printed forms, signatures and a folder on the bridge — or a permit built for this ship, this space and this job

The system should bring the procedure to the crew, so the right controls are in front of them at every stage.

05Why PTW X7

What sets PTW X7 apart for your fleet

PTW X7 is built for today, not yesterday. It ensures compliance without training the crew on each process, because the system pulls the processes in and creates the permit for them.

01

Bespoke permits, generated automatically

Each permit is generated based on the type of ship, space of operation, equipment in use, company SMS procedures and regulatory requirements.

02

Your workflow, your checks

Company permit workflows, customisable permit fields and customisable precautions and checks for each stage.

03

Risk assessment built in

Integrated risk assessments keep the hazards and controls inside the permit, not on a separate sheet.

04

Works offline, syncs to shore

Available offline on iOS and Android mobiles and tablets and on Windows desktops and laptops. Permits are completed at the work site with digital signatures and photos, and the data syncs to shore when a connection is available.

The right controls every time

Space-specific warnings and stage-by-stage checks put the hazards of this space and this job in front of the crew, rather than relying on memory.

Less training, faster permits

Because the system pulls in the processes, the crew do not need separate training on every permit type to produce a compliant permit.

Fewer inspection findings

A digitally signed permit with an integrated risk assessment and photo evidence gives SIRE 2.0, RISQ 3.2 and PSC inspectors a clear, complete record.

07AI, pattern recognition and ease of use

The procedure comes to the crew

PTW X7 does the reading and assembling, so the crew can focus on the job and its hazards.

AI built in Pattern recognition Designed for seafarers

Automatic permit generation

The system assembles the permit from ship type, space, equipment, SMS procedures and regulations, so the right precautions appear without searching.

Space-specific warnings

Hazards linked to the space and its previous contents, such as atmospheric hazards in a cargo hold, are shown before work begins.

Stage-by-stage flow

Selection, preparation, pre-work checks, equipment, authorisation, work and closure are worked through in order.

Designed for ships and seafarers

Offline mobile and tablet apps, digital signatures and photo capture mean the permit is completed at the work site.

08Real-time dashboards and analytics

Every stage of the permit on one screen

PTW X7 guides the crew through each stage of the permit and shows the hazards that matter for the space selected.
