Remote Navigation Audits

VDR & S-VDR Analysis: See What Really Happens on Your Bridge

Remote navigation audits built on your vessels' own VDR data. Our Master Mariner-led team reconstructs real bridge behaviour, grades every finding against your procedures, SIRE 2.0, TMSA 3 and RightShip, and debriefs the officers so the same mistake is not repeated on the next ship.

What has changed

Vetting now asks how your bridge team actually works

A navigation audit used to mean a checklist completed while an auditor was on board. Today oil majors, charterers and inspectors want evidence of how watches are kept when nobody is watching.

SIRE 2.0

Inspectors probe how the bridge team plans, communicates and responds, and compare it with what the procedures say.

TMSA 3

Operators are expected to verify navigational practices through regular navigation audits and act on what they find.

RightShip

Navigation incidents and practices feed directly into the vessel's safety profile with charterers.

PSC & Flag

Detentions and investigations increasingly use VDR records to establish what happened on the bridge.

Charterer scrutiny

After any incident, the first request is the VDR. Fleets that already review their own data are ready for that question.

The risk of waiting

What a missed bridge habit can cost

Most navigation incidents are not caused by equipment. They start with habits that nobody sees until the day they matter.

  • Audits that show the best day

A riding auditor changes behaviour. The report reflects what the team does when observed, not on the night watch in traffic.

  • Repeat observations in vetting

The same bridge resource management and passage planning gaps appear again and again across inspections.

  • Incidents with no early warning

Close-quarters situations, alarm fatigue and poor pilot exchanges rarely appear in paperwork until something goes wrong.

  • Hundreds of findings, no picture

Without consolidation, the office cannot see which issues repeat across the fleet or which vessels need attention first.

What you get

Everything you get with a remote VDR audit

One engagement gives you evidence, training and fleet insight, not just a report.

01

Compliance report

A detailed VDR analysis report checked against your company navigation procedures, SIRE 2.0, TMSA 3, RightShip and industry best practice, with graphs of critical parameters.

02

Online debrief and training

A discussion and training session with the vessel after the analysis, so the officers understand each observation and what good looks like.

03

Audio and video clips

Recordings of non-conformities and high-risk observations, ready to use in your own fleet training.

04

Risk-based grading

Findings graded by risk, with best practices and training needs identified for each vessel.

05

Fleet benchmarking

Your vessels compared internally and against industry data, plus a six-monthly fleet analysis of high-risk and most frequently repeated observations.

06

Live analysis dashboard

An AI-based platform for planning, execution, reports and live fleet analysis, which can also analyse past years' VDR data if you wish.

How it works

A simple process that takes the work off your team

We plan the fleet programme and chase the data, so your superintendents do not have to.

  1. 1

    Fleet plan

We prepare a fleet planner and send a standard email to each scheduled vessel.

  2. 2

    Data download

The Master backs up the VDR data within two hours of arriving at anchorage, berth or after a strait or channel transit, with our shore support if needed.

  3. 3

    Secure upload

On arrival in port the agent uploads the VDR data and supporting documents to our secure link.

  4. 4

    Analysis and debrief

We analyse the data, then hold a debrief and training session with the officers at a time that suits the vessel.

A standard review covers 12 or 24 hours of critical legs. The report is delivered in 4-5 working days for 12 hours of data, or 6-7 working days for up to 24 hours. We keep players for more than 30 VDR makes and store your data securely for three months for any follow-up.

Questions about VDR analysis

Plan a VDR Audit
What is a remote VDR audit?

A remote VDR audit is a navigation audit carried out from the vessel's Voyage Data Recorder data instead of with an auditor on board. Synergetic Shipping Technologies reconstructs the passage from bridge audio, radar, ECDIS, helm and engine orders, alarms and VHF, then grades bridge practices against your procedures, SIRE 2.0, TMSA 3 and RightShip expectations.

What do you need from the vessel?

The VDR data for the agreed period plus supporting documents such as the passage plan and risk assessment, Master's standing and night orders, deck, bell and VHF logs, ECDIS screenshots or chart photos, pilot card and Master-pilot exchange, relevant checklists, bridge team matrix and work and rest hours of the bridge team.

How long does a VDR analysis take?

For a standard 12-hour review the report is delivered in 4-5 working days. For up to 24 hours of critical legs it takes 6-7 working days.

Which VDR makes can you analyse?

We maintain the latest players for more than 30 Voyage Data Recorder makes, and our team supports the crew if they have difficulty downloading the data.

How is the VDR data protected?

Synergetic Shipping Technologies is ISO 27001:2022 certified. Data is uploaded through a secure link, handled by the assigned team only and kept for three months for follow-up.
